Audition

Band Auditions:        

There is a yearly Fair Share Fee of $500.00 assessed to each student

Students are expected to bring their own wind instruments; percussion students should bring drumsticks/mallets.

Please prepare the items below. The audition rubric includes assessment of tone quality, articulation, posture, artistic practice, audition preparation, engagement, and professionalism.

1.) Students should prepare a solo/ piece that shows their abilities on their instrument. Our preference would be a solo from Solo and Ensemble but a selection from your band music will be fine also.

Percussion Students:

1.) Students should prepare a solo/ piece that shows their abilities on the Snare Drum. Our preference would be a solo from Solo and Ensemble but a selection from your band music will be fine also.

There is a yearly fair share fee of $500 assessed to each student. Contact the teacher directly for scholarship information.

Click on the link below and print out the etude for your instrument. This etude is to be played in its entirety. Percussion students will be required to play both the Snare Drum and the Mallet Etudes.

Jazz Band Auditions:      

There is a yearly Fair Share Fee of $200.00 assessed to each student

  • -Students must be accepted as a member of the SJCCA Band Program (or other SJCCA Music Program for a Rhythm Section member). This requires students to be in 2 SJCCA Music Courses in their daily schedule and must pay or fund raise both fair share fees.
  • -Students are expected to bring their own wind instruments; percussion students should bring drumsticks/mallets.
  • -Please prepare the items below. The audition rubric includes assessment of tone quality, articulation, posture, artistic practice, audition preparation, engagement, and professionalism.
  • -Students will be asked to perform a Short Sight Reading Exercise in 2 Jazz Styles.
  • Drum Set Players will be asked to demonstrate both Swing and Rock styles.

Orchestra Auditions:

There is a yearly Fair Share Fee of $200.00 assessed to each student.

Students are expected to bring their own instrument; string bass students- may use a school instrument if needed. Please email Mr. Peters ahead of time to ensure availability.
